From award wins to inspiring events, 2019 has been an incredible year for the DYW Glasgow Team. Here are just a few of our highlights:

In January we hosted our first destination carousel for winter leavers, helping young people to find their next steps towards the career which is right for them. After the success of this event, we will be partnering with Glasgow City Council and Skills Development Scotland to host ‘Towards Better Futures: Next Steps Carousel’ on the 15 January 2020.

Scotland’s Biggest Parents Evening was launched in March as part of ‘Scottish Apprenticeship Week’ which helped parents and carers learn about the value of apprenticeships and work-based learning helping them better support their child when making future career decisions. Hundreds of parents, young people and business professionals took part in the event with many of our business partners hosting their own successful events. In January, Scotland’s Biggest Parents’ Evening 2020 will be hosted at Glasgow Science Centre focusing on the 'Jobs of The Future'.

In May we launched our ‘Maximise May’ series of events which inspired youngsters by giving them a taste of working life. Employers from across Glasgow gave school pupils the chance to take part in a wide range of activities, including hands-on digital sessions and advice on how to apply for jobs. This saw over 1100 school pupils get involved with 42 employer engagements.

November saw us win the Herald Scottish Digital Business Award 2019 award for best use of social media for 2019’s No Wrong Path campaign which showed young people who are disheartened by their exam results that there are lots of different routes into interesting job roles and exams results are not necessarily the key to unlocking future success.

In 2019 we also piloted a project with CCG which looks to demonstrate the effectiveness of 4 employer engagements in progressing young people into employment. From the 65 applicants we sifted them down into a small cohort who will undertake a period of work experience with a view to securing employment.
