CMS Glasgow hosts career masterclass for female students in celebration of International Women’s Day
Wednesday, 11 March 2020
The event will host approximately 60 students, offering them the opportunity to meet a group of inspiring professional women from a variety of organisations and backgrounds. CMS has run a similar International Women’s Day event in London for the last ten years and is excited to partner with DYW to bring this opportunity to Glasgow for the first time.
Allan Wernham, Managing Director and Partner at CMS Scotland, comments: “We are delighted to host this year’s CMS Masterclass in our Glasgow office in recognition of International Women’s Day. These annual events champion and celebrate diversity in the workplace, encouraging young women’s aspirations – whatever they might be. As a firm, we are committed to nurturing rewarding futures and making a positive impact on our communities. It is our hope that this event will be of real use to the young women who attend, helping them to grow in confidence and inspiring them to make new connections and build relationships to help them achieve their goals.”
Emily Catterwell, Senior Corporate Responsibility Manager at CMS, adds: “It’s with great pleasure that we’re hosting the firm’s annual career masterclass in our Scottish office this year. We hope that all the young women attending will be inspired by the diversity of our speakers and the range of insight and advice that they’re able to share.”
Alison McRae, senior director at Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, says: “DYW Glasgow is delighted to be working in partnership with CMS Law to celebrate International Womens Day! One of the key aims of DYW and Scottish Government is to champion diversity by increasing the promotion of opportunities available to young women within key sectors including business services. This in turn supports Glasgow’s wider economic growth ambitions. This day will provide a great opportunity for the young women attending to develop their “meta- skills” – the skills which are going to be needed in the future. They will increase their independent and critical thinking through what they hear from this great range of motivational speakers and will also learn tips on how to make the most of networking opportunities”.
Among the masterclass’ diverse list of speakers are Jennifer Reoch and Jessica Mitchell. Jennifer is a television presenter known for hosting shows such as Live at Five and Scots Paradise; she graduated with a law degree from Glasgow University in 2011 before going on to win the annual Miss Scotland contest. Jessica is a promising young chef who won the 2019 Springboard Future Chef competition, beating out over 13,000 competitors for the title – and, at 15 years old, she will be the event’s youngest speaker.
The CMS Masterclass will run on Wednesday 11th March 2020 from 9.30am – 1.00pm and will be hosted at CMS’ Glasgow office.
