Stephanie, City of Glasgow College
Serving a Modern Apprenticeship at City of Glasgow College paid off for Stephanie Crum who achieved her goal of full-time employment with the college.
Stephanie, who was one of six apprentices specialising in Business and Administration, secured a permanent role as Student Records Assistant.
For the 19 year old from Baillieston, the apprenticeship offered an attractive alternative to college or university.
“For me, it was a good way to get work experience, a qualification and get paid. Going to college or university didn’t appeal so I read up on Modern Apprenticeships and decided that was the route for me,” explained Stephanie.
“At the time I was looking, City of Glasgow College was advertising for six roles within business and administration. I was interested in the breakdown of roles within Student Records so applied for that post and got it,” she added.
Lizann Gunning, Student Records Coordinator at City of Glasgow College, said:
“It has been great to see Stephanie gain confidence and become a valued member of our team. She continues to work towards her SCQF Level 6 which will enhance her range and depth of knowledge and skills within our department.”
The apprenticeship certainly lived up to Stephanie’s expectations:
“Meeting new people and learning the different aspects of the job has really helped my confidence. I enjoy working in Student Records, and at the college. It’s a good environment to work in. Every day is different and I get a real sense of satisfaction in helping to clear up student queries. I am so pleased that I now have a permanent role here.”
City of Glasgow College currently delivers up to 600 apprenticeships across key industry sectors. These include hairdressing and barbering, procurement, creative and cultural skills, digital and ICT, health and social care as well as maritime deck ratings and engine ratings.
