Case Study

DYW Glasgow hosted its second Youth Ambassadors meeting, the second in a series of four planned events. The meeting took place on Tuesday 3rd December 2024 at J.P. Morgan’s Argyle Street office.

The agenda of this meeting was as follows:

Zibby was invited following feedback from young people at the previous session, where they expressed an interest in cyber security and coding careers. During the session, Zibby shared insights about his career and the various pathways available within the field. The young people also had the opportunity to ask Zibby questions.

The young people then had a chance to stand up and talk about what DYW looks like in their school. Some young people spoke in groups while others took the opportunity to speak individually.

Stephanie Connor from A.C. Whyte hosted a ‘Building Success’ session, where she discussed different things that young people can engage, both in and out of school, and how these can translate into valuable soft skills for job applications.

Finally, we talked the young people through their workbooks. All of the young people taking part in the Youth Ambassador programme will also receive a Dynamic Youth Award.

Objectives

To have a youth voice on our Glasgow Employment and Skills Board.

To have a youth voice when planning our DYW activity.

Results/Outcome

The young people shared invaluable insight into what DYW looks like in their school and what it means to them. This has been shared with the board.

The young people have access to a padlet with all of the information linked to Youth Ambassadors. We will be sharing monthly surveys with them to get their feedback on specific topics.

Benefits

The chance to improve on transferable skills, to have input on discussions around skills and employability, to partake in volunteering, to get some additional training and gain a qualification out with school, to improve confidence and develop public speaking skills, etc.

Testimonials

“We are incredibly grateful to be given this opportunity and will put in our most effort to make a good impact on young people’s future careers. It is an amazing chance to show our skills and support for our peers. It’ll also give us some extra information to put on our future personal statement.”
