Glasgow’s Big Parents’ Night Out
Last Thursday evening, DYW Glasgow held the annual Parents’ Big Night Out at the Boardwalk, Glasgow. It was an excellent gathering with plenty of practical help and support for parents and carers keen to understand the changing work and education environment.
We heard some inspirational and thought-provoking talks from Mark Goldie at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Mollie Stephen at Scottish Federation of Housing Associations, Ian McDonald at Golf It! and Kellie McKechnie at Stream Marine Careers. Our speakers highlighted the current education and skills landscape and the routes young people can take to follow different pathways. We also had a marketplace with educational establishments, learning facilities and career advisors who were on hand for those who were seeking help.
The event, organised by Developing the Young Workforce Glasgow in partnership with Glasgow City Parents Group (GCPG), highlighted the wealth of opportunities for young people across various industries and the support available to them.
Leanne McGuire, the host of the evening and chair of Glasgow City Parents’ Group, said “This is a tremendous event and we’re delighted with the support of so many organisations, including the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, and the DYW Glasgow team, and others who have given up their time to come and be part of this. It’s rewarding to see the range of opportunities and we hope parents and carers are armed with up-to-date information so they can have informed discussions with their young people.”
Thank you to everyone who managed to come along, we had a great evening, one filled with many inspiring and provocative conversations! The future looks bright for the next generation.
