Meet the Team – Jodi Hyndman

How long have you been with DYW Glasgow and what are your highlights so far?

I’m the newest member of DYW Glasgow, and have been here for 9 months so far! A big highlight for me is seeing the impact we have on young people – whether it’s through hearing testimonials, to watching students explore different industries through one of our many events. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of something bigger and know we’re making a difference.

What is the best part of your job?

I love to learn new things, and in this role, there’s always something new to learn – whether it is about different industries, companies or new projects, every day is fun and exciting. I also love being a part of such a supportive team – everyone is working hard towards the same goal and always has each other’s backs.

Hobbies/interesting facts

I’m currently polishing up my skills for when I retire and become the ultimate granny, so I like crocheting, baking and reading. I also love to be creative and dabble in different arts, but don’t ask me to draw anything harder than a stick figure!

Favourite positive affirmation

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.”

What book or movie have you recently read/seen and why would you recommend it?

I’m currently reading The Lantern of Lost Memories by Sanaka Hiiragi. It’s a short read about a man who helps guide souls through the afterlife by revisiting their memories through photographs – while being unable to remember his own past life. The book takes “your life will flash before your eyes” and places a comforting spin on the phrase, instead reminding the reader to cherish the times they’re in and turning a negative memory into a lesson.

Despite how it sounds, it’s actually a light and comforting read, so I’d recommend it to anyone on a rainy day.
