Meet the Team – Steph Patterson
How long have you been with DYW Glasgow, and what are your highlights so far?
I’ve been with DYW Glasgow for 7 months now, and my highlights genuinely happen daily. Being able to speak with employers about the difference they want to make in a young person’s life is incredibly rewarding for me. I’ve also had the opportunity to attend events and Work Aware visits, where it’s heartwarming to see the impact from the pupils’ side as well. We have such an amazing team, and everyone works together seamlessly. So yes, every day brings something special.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of the job for me is knowing that what we do truly makes a difference. We provide young people with unique insights and experiences that I didn’t have when I was younger, and I think that’s so important. Helping inform and guide young people who feel stuck or undecided really makes my day.
Hobbies/Interesting Facts
I’m a very creative person, and a few of my hobbies include digital drawing, playing guitar, and writing (both poetry and aspiring to be a novelist—though it’s a large work in progress).
Favourite Positive Affirmation
Times may be difficult, but it’s just a short phase of life. Things can get better. Things will get better.
15 Minutes of Fame
I once met (and I use the word “met” very lightly) James Phelps, who played Fred Weasley in Harry Potter. At the time, it was the most exciting experience—though in hindsight, it was a 60-second cameo call that I paid £60 for! Still, it was a great experience, but looking back, it’s pretty funny.
What book or movie have you recently read/seen, and why would you recommend it?
I recently finished rereading Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman. It’s one of the most beautiful stories of love, desire, and heartache that will leave you both devastated and yearning. There’s also a movie adaptation that I adore and would recommend in a heartbeat.
