Case Study

Forty S1 and S2 pupils participated in a STEM Camp event at school, delivered by employees from CGI UK, a leading Technology and IT Services company.

The event aimed to inspire pupils by showcasing careers in the STEM sectors while raising awareness about opportunities within the employer’s organisation, which provides services to Glasgow City Council.

The STEM Camp featured three interactive workshops, delivered in a carousel format:

VR Headset

Using this head-mounted device, pupils explored various virtual environments and engaged with interactive games.

Spaghetti and Marshmallow Challenge

Teams were tasked with constructing the tallest free-standing structure using 20 sticks of spaghetti, one yard of tape, one yard of string, and a marshmallow within 20 minutes.

Sphero Coding Robot

Pupils learned coding and programming skills using educational robots and platforms like JavaScript.

The event engaged pupils throughout, helping them develop problem-solving skills and experience digital technology first-hand. Pupils also received positive feedback from CGI UK on their active participation and excellent behaviour.

This was the first partnership between St Mungo’s Academy and CGI UK, with the employer expressing interest in returning next term to work with additional pupils in both the BGE and Senior Phase.
