Why I chose this career path:

‘Right Place, Right Time’ – my career reflects this moto! Having studied Chemistry at University I knew that being in a lab was not going to be for me. At 22, I decided to leave and took an opportunity in Shetland on an exciting new project  – Shetland Gas Plant. At the start I was a Water Management Operative (Not as exciting as it seems!). Being in Shetland and working in the wonderful surrounding environment – with coastlines, otters and rolling heather made me want to learn more about the natural environment. I asked the on-site environmental advisor if I could assist in anyway. That developed into becoming an environmental assistant, junior advisor and finally becoming an environmental advisor. I was able to develop and learn from working on the job. This was supported by doing environmental courses to gain qualifications within the field.

Since 2015, I have worked for GRAHAM doing the job I love. In my role I am involved across environmental management and protection, sustainability and more! No day is ever the same.

In 2022 I became a Chartered member of the Society for the Environment. My next step is to learn more about sustainable buildings and I am currently undertaking a distance learning degree in building services engineering to achieve that.

Why Climate Heroes is important to me:

Becoming a Climate Hero allows me to give back and support the young generation in becoming their own climate heroes. The field of sustainability is growing and many business sectors require both skilled professionals and ambitious young people to drive innovation.

My biggest passion in life is my family and I like nothing more than being with my family in the outdoors surrounded by our great natural environment. Working daily to help protect the environment and develop sustainable practices drives me on – I want to share that passion with others.
