How DYW are Helping to Shape the Future: Scottish Careers Week 2023
Today sees the start of Scottish Careers Week 2023! Scottish Careers Week is delivered by Skills Development Scotland, and in collaboration with local and national partners aims to help people of all ages to explore careers through events and activities, raising awareness of the services and resources that can support them to do so.
The theme for this year’s campaign is ‘Shape the Future’ and at Developing the Young Workforce this is right at the heart of what we do. We are employer led and it’s our priority to make it easier for employers to connect with young people across Scotland.
How does DYW support employers to connect with schools?
It’s a team effort to support young people to prepare for the world of work, and through DYW, employers can provide inspirational opportunities for young people to help them understand and develop the skills they need to succeed. There are many ways you can take that first step to connecting with education both locally and/or nationally:
Contact us at dyw@glasgowchamberofcommerce.com for a conversation to find out more about how you might get involved.
Support your local school or college to deliver one of our National Programmes:
Skills Academy – with Skills Academy you can support young people to get industry ready through a blend of Digital Resources, Interactive Employer Sessions and One to One support. During these sessions you can provide young people with insight, knowledge and skills they need to build their confidence and prepare for the world of work.
My Climate Path – My Climate Path is an employer-led programme of activity which raises awareness of the roles and skills required for the jobs of the future that will drive sustainable economic growth in a circular and net zero economy. The programme provides you with a simple mechanism for engaging, through a range of projects, with young people in schools around green jobs, climate change and sustainability.
Build Your Future – Build Your Future provides young people with the insight, knowledge and skills they need to develop their awareness and experience of Construction and the Built Environment. Through a blend of online Digital Resources with lesson plans, class talks, and an active challenge, young people can explore the world of construction and built environment with local and national organisations. If you would like to help us shape the programme and could attend one of our round table discussions, contact us at dyw@glasgowchamberofcommerce.com
Construction Work Tasters – If you’re an employer in the construction sector, you can help young people to experience a taste of different job roles in the sector before they make their career choices. You can play a part in educating and inspiring our future workforce through Construction Work Tasters.
