Objectives: To expand the aspirations of all year groups within our school and create opportunities/networking opportunities for future activities.

Case Study

The DYW Coordinator organised a Careers Awareness stall to create an informal experience for young people to find out about different industries and learn about different routes and pathways. During the event, one of the S6 pupils who has a keen interest in the transport/engineering industry made a point of introducing himself to SPT and created an excellent network link by showing a genuine interest and politeness towards the staff and asking questions. From this initial first meeting, SPT engaged with the DYW Coordinator to pass on feedback from the event, and asked about the young person who showed an interest. The young person and the DYW Coordinator corresponded with SPT to say thank you and initiated an enquiry for an industry insight which then led to the young person carrying out a 3-day work placement. The young person is keeping in touch with the employer after having the opportunity to work on the new fleet and is going to attend his engineering college course with the aim of spending time with SPT throughout and keeping in touch when qualified.

Results/Outcome: Young person gaining work placement and networking contacts.

Benefits: Young person feeling confident and valued from engaging in an interactive employer experience and now determined to complete college courses for future opportunities with SPT.
