Luddon Construction offer employment opportunities to pupils
Wednesday, 03 August 2016
Further to their involvement with Govan and Drumchapel High Schools in their ‘Skills for Life’ pre-apprenticeship training programmes, Luddon Construction are pleased to have offered employment opportunities to two former pupils of Drumchapel High School, Kevin Gallagher and Jordan Benson.
Kevin and Jordan received training at the Luddon Training Centre between August 2015 and June 2016 as part of the pre-apprenticeship programme being piloted on behalf of the Scottish Government. The company will now benefit directly from their newly acquired skills and qualifications.
The work placements are testament to the ongoing success of the ‘Skills for Life’ programme and will now provide both individuals with invaluable construction industry experience and a real prospect of full-time employment and apprenticeship with Luddon Construction.
The opportunity for the work placements arose when Luddon were awarded a contract at Great Western Retail Park, Drumchapel, providing the perfect opportunity to take their partnership with Drumchapel High School further. Much of the success of the partnership can be attributed to the efforts of the school staff who provide a huge amount of support for the pupils.
Douglas Currie, Building Contracts Manager for Luddon said, “We hope that the ongoing success of the programme demonstrates to other organisations that the well-publicised construction industry skills shortage can be addressed, at least in part, by employers, schools and all other stakeholders working closely together.”
